Wool in the cat’s stomach

The skin and its covers are a natural protective barrier that protects the cat from the negative impact of environmental factors. In addition to the protective, the skin performs thermoregulatory, excretory and receptor functions. In addition, many metabolic processes occur in the skin, which in one way or another are reflected in the work of all body systems.
What does “cat with sensitive skin” mean?
Not surprisingly, general ill health and metabolic imbalances often manifest themselves in the deterioration of the quality of the skin. Pets prone to such problems are called “animals with sensitive skin.” To ensure normal metabolism and maintain healthy skin and coat of cats with sensitive skin, you should pay particular attention to their diet.

It should have the following characteristics:

• A sufficient content of vitamin A and zinc, contributing to better skin regeneration, is necessary for the synthesis of collagen.

• High content of special fatty acids (omega-3 and omega-6) reduces skin inflammation, improves the quality of wool.

• High content of antioxidants (vitamins E and C) enhances the protection of skin cells from the harmful effects of free radicals.

• High protein content to ensure regenerative processes.

Why are lumps of wool formed in the stomach?
Cats are very clean and spend much of their leisure time licking wool. In the process of “washing”, they swallow a significant amount of hairs, which can later lead to the formation of hair lumps (trichobezoar) and, as a result, disruption of the intestine. Such disorders can manifest themselves as regurgitation of lumps of wool, delivering only aesthetic discomfort to the host, and can also lead to serious life-threatening pathologies.

More than half of the cats (56%) in the digestive tract form hairballs, but, of course, this problem is most acutely affected by long-haired cats.
How to feed such cats?
PRO PLAN® Derma Plus is optimally balanced especially for animals with sensitive skin and meets all of the above requirements. As a source of protein, it contains meat of salmon, which provides excellent taste of food and additionally fills the diet with essential fatty acids. In animals, on an ongoing basis, using properly balanced feed, the quality of the skin is significantly improved, molting is normalized.

Thus, the high content of insoluble dietary fiber in PRO PLAN® Derma Plus contributes to the natural removal of wool from the gastrointestinal tract and prevents the formation of hair lumps in the stomach. PRO PLAN® Derma Plus in just 14 days reduces the accumulation of hairballs, which makes this food especially attractive for owners of cats with long hair.
